Heat Pump Systems

Use your electric heat pump system as a powerful money saving tool for your family’s comfort.

Ever wondered how much you’re spending to use your heat pump? Typically, your heating and central air conditioning unit costs around 39% of your electric bill.

6 ways a heat pump can save you money

Variable speed

Variable speed technology runs longer heating and cooling cycles for consistent temperatures throughout the home.

SEER rating

Look at the SEER rating. All heat pumps and central air conditioning units have a SEER and EER rating. A higher rating means your system will work more efficiency and use less energy to heat or cool your home. After a few years, the savings will help offset the added cost of higher efficiency equipment.

Annual heating and cooling system tune ups

Just like your car, your heating and cooling units need to have periodic tune ups. Have your Leinbach Services HVAC technician inspect your system annually. This is the easiest fix for energy efficiency for everyone.

When your air conditioner is on, set your thermostat to 78. Anything lower will increase your cost by 2-3% for every degree below 78. If you’re going to be away from home, set your thermostat even higher. In the winter, set the temperature at 68. Each degree higher will increase your bill 2-3% each degree. Set your thermostat to the desired temperature. Your home warms up at the same speed, regardless of the temperature setting. You won’t reach your desired temperature any sooner by setting the thermostat to a higher setting than you are actually seekings. Programmable thermostats save money and energy throughout the year.

Check your ducts

Leaky ductwork often accounts for 10-20% of your total heating and cooling costs. If you’re losing 20% of your total airflow due to leaks, the overall efficiency of your heating or cooling system may be negatively impacted.

Air filters for home

Remember to change your air filters. Dirty filters make your unit work harder. For maximum efficiency, clean or replace your air filters every month. A good way to remember to change out the filter is to do it every time you receive your electric bill.

EnergyGuide labels for heat pumps

In the 1970s, American became aware of the need to save energy. In support of those conservation efforts, the US government established a program to help consumers compare energy efficiency amount certain products. One result was the EnergyGuide labels that are still used today. It’s a bright yellow label that appears on room air conditioners, central air conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces, and boilers. The details on the yellow label include: manufacturer, model number, type of appliance, and capacity; compares the appliance energy efficiency with similar models; give the energy efficiency ratings; and gives an estimate for annual operating costs.

Save energy and money while increasing the comfort in your home with a new heat pump system.

A good heat pump is constantly moving warm air from one place to another. A heat pump uses the outside air to both heat a home in winter and cool it in summer.

For example, when it’s cold outside, a heat pump extracts this outside heat and transfers it inside. When it’s warm outside, it reverses directions and acts like an air conditioner, removing heat from your home.

Heat pump systems typically consists of two parts:

  1. an indoor unit called an air handler and
  2. an outdoor unit similar to a central air conditioner, but referred to as a heat pump.

A compressor circulates refrigerant that absorbs and releases heat as it travels between the indoor and outdoor units.

The energy efficiency advantage of a heat pump is that it moves heat instead of generating heat.

(Note: heat pumps are best for moderate climates, and a supplemental heating source, such as a gas fireplace, may be needed for lower temperatures.)
